San Luis Potosi in Mexico is not exactly a destination that comes to mind when thinking about the birthplace of mezcal and chocolate. Iceland is a magical place. It’s the land of sheep, northern lights, volcanoes with unpronounceable names (try saying “Eyjafjallajökull”), rugged landscapes, waterfalls, mountains, and natural hot springs. Its stunning, scenic landscape feels out of this world.

Iceland quickly became one of my favorite countries after my first visit. It’s such a beautiful island filled with warm, welcoming people and sweeping vistas you won’t find anywhere else in the world. I have relished every subsequent visit to the country.

However, Iceland is expensive.

Traveling here on a budget is difficult as Iceland is definitely not a cheap country (and the growing influx of tourists is only increasing prices further).

Fortunately, it is possible to see a lot without going broke if you plan ahead. You won’t be living large if you’re here to backpack, but Iceland is worth the expense.

This travel guide to Iceland can help you plan your trip and see the sights without breaking the bank!

A country that’s not on everyone’s travel bucket list, Bangladesh – located to the east of India on the Bay of Benga in South East Asia – is a vastly overlooked and overrated travel destination.

Like its neighbours Myanmar, India and has a rich and extraordinary history and culture, with plenty of ancient temples, archaeological sites, and pretty mosques to explore. “Paradise” is a word that often gets tossed around when describing Bali, and for good reason. This famous island in Indonesia is known for its vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and vast selection of beaches. In this guide, we’ll take a closer look at the best beaches in Bali.

While Bali may look small on the map, this unassuming island packs a lot in and it’s definitely one of the top places to visit in the country. In addition to its many excellent beaches, the island also has volcanoes, lakes, hot springs, forests, waterfalls, and more. With a few days here, you can take in a little bit of everything.

I can speak from experience of the magnetic power Bali has. After visiting twice for a few weeks each time, I decided to apply for a program to live there for a year while learning the language and culture. It was one of the best decisions I ever made and I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Bali.

You might know (or think you know) some things about the Nordic countries. You might think of them as expensive, and know about the long, dark winters that people experience here. But did you know that people who live in the Nordics are consistently rated as some of the happiest in the entire world?

I had visited all the Scandinavian capitals in the past (that would be Oslo, Norway; Stockholm, Sweden; and Copenhagen, Denmark), but had not yet added on their Nordic neighbor Helsinki in Finland. So, we grabbed our Eurail map and looked at what countries connected from these two via rail and Slovenia was the first to jump out at us. Koh Samui, Thailand’s second largest island is a hugely popular destination and rightly so. Highly accessible, the beautiful beaches and Thai hospitality is what makes it so famous and easy to travel to Koh Samui with kids.

It is more expensive to fly into Koh Samui in comparison to phuket, hence the ferry is very popular. We initially landed in Bangkok and took an internal flight. With over 1 million visitors a year, Koh Samui has all the amenities you could want when travelling with little ones.

Seoul is a city of excess: it’s a city turned up to eleven. My first time backpacking in Seoul was on a visa-run from Japan. Despite coming from the other East Asian land of efficient and highly-technical cities, I was unprepared for Seoul’s modern wonders and efficiency.

I was on a mission to find a jimjilbang (bathhouse): a mission that took me through twisting, rainswept alleys decked with blinkering neon lights, and I found myself walking into the cyberpunk metropolis I’d always hoped to see.

When the sun came out the next day I climbed Mountain Namsan, trailing one of the ancient fortress walls of Seoul; that’s when I got the scope of just how impressive the city of Seoul is.

Seoul is a city over 2000-years-old, but it’s also a city that has evolved into a futuristic metropolis. One day, when we’re doing the ‘flying cars amongst shadowy skyscrapers’ thing, I reckon Seoul will lead the charge.

If you’re visiting Seoul on a budget then you have to be smart. South Korea isn’t crushingly expensive, but you should prepare for the drawbacks of visiting a highly economized city.

Luckily, we’re all about that frugal living and affordable travel.

We love Prague. It's magical, super gay, and absolutely stunning. It makes for the ideal weekend city break with plenty of fun guaranteed!

For us, Prague definitely ranks as one of our top destinations in Europe as well as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It's super unique, with its striking Gothic architecture, magnificent medieval monuments, like something from a fairy tale. It's no wonder that it's one of the most visited cities in the world.

Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, a former Soviet-influenced country in Central Europe, now part of the EU. The country is so rich with culture that you can never get bored exploring it. To give you a brief idea, its history date back to the 9th century when it used to be called ‘The Duchy of Bohemia' under the Great Moravian Empire. It was around this time that Prague Castle was built, one of Prague's most famous tourist sites. In addition, most of the beautiful and picturesque medieval buildings of the Old Town, like “Charles Bridge” were subsequently built in the 1300s by the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles IV. There's a lot to see here, which we've summarised below, but make sure you also give yourself ample time to check out the dynamic gay nightlife of Prague.

Mexico City is a sprawling, chaotic, messy city in the best way possible. Here you’ll find world-class museums, monumental churches, grand plazas, historic buildings, lush parks, and one of the best food scenes in the world. It’s no surprise that travelers fall in love with all aspects of this dynamic city.

Founded in the early 14th century by the Aztecs, Mexico City is one of the oldest capital cities in the Americas. Today, it is one of the most fascinating cultural destinations in the world, with eclectic art galleries, animated food markets, bustling nightlife, and grandiose historic buildings on tree-lined streets.

I was late to visit Mexico City, but once I spent time here I fell in love. The museum, parks, and food scene make this a world-class city in my view. It’s also super affordable and has a growing expat/digital nomad scene so it’s easy to visit long-term and make connections.

This travel guide to Mexico City can help you make the most out of your trip, save money, help you stay safe, and ensure you have an amazing visit!
