Glacier hiking offers a more adventurous spin on traditional hiking and can be done on every continent except for Australia. Whether you love nature, a physical challenge, or simply being outdoors, glacier hiking is a great way to feed your sense of adventure.

The sheer scale, beauty, and uniqueness of glaciers make the experience of hiking on them unforgettable. It’s an activity that often takes you out of your comfort zone and can provide a sense of accomplishment. Glacier hiking usually involves using specialised equipment and often requires exhilarating transport to reach them such scenic helicopter rides.

So now that I’ve piqued your interest, you may be asking where to start searching for glacier hiking experiences. My answer would be to start in New Zealand. While Australia may not have any glaciers, its neighbour has numerous that are “Sweet as, bru!”

Gibraltar is a tiny little dot of a place, just 2.6 square miles (6.8 square kilometers) in size. Considering its diminutive area, you’d be forgiven for thinking that there couldn’t possibly be much to do the British Overseas Territory, but you’d be wrong...

Gibraltar’s manmade points of interest are more than matched by the unique natural features that make it such a curiosity. First-time visitors are often surprised by just how impressive the famous Rock is when first confronted by the limestone promontory – almost as surprised as they are to learn that it is home to Europe’s only wild monkey population. The surrounding waters, meanwhile, are filled with not one but three different species of dolphin, which frolic in the sea all year round.

Located in one of the most southern parts of Spain, this bastion of Britishness seems like a complete anomaly in the region, which is just one more reason to set aside a day or two to visit the strange little city.

Curious travelers will spend days and hours keeping busy with all the things to do in Granada, Spain.

Granada is best known as the home of the Alhambra, one of the most famous fortresses/palaces in the world. However, there is a lot more to this fascinating city than royal palaces.

Granada is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains. It sits at the confluence of four rivers, the Darro, the Genil, the Monachil, and the Beiro. It can be easily visited via bus from Malaga or Seville. This makes it a perfect day (or overnight) trip for anyone staying in those two cities as they explore Andalucia.

Hear about travel to New York City as the Amateur Traveler talks to Rebecca Shoval from Not Just Tourists NYC about her adopted home in the city that never sleeps.

Why should you go to New York City?

Rebecca says, “I think someone should come to New York for so many reasons. I think it’s this incredibly vibrant place. It exudes life and I find walking around the city, it really just gives you energy. It’s also this vibrant multicultural place where you can really see the way that there’s so much commitment to the city and to the culture and to people really living in something resembling harmony next to each other… or at least ignoring each other and not getting in each other’s business. There are so many different things to do.”

Upon landing in Dominica, located in the Caribbean, you’ll be met by a valley covered in waterfalls and trees. It’s a true pearl of the Caribbean islands and there are many things to do in Dominica.

This island, also referred to as Nature Island, is one of the most sought-after diving regions in the world due to its diverse marine life and wild rainforests.

Compared to other nearby countries, visitors to the island don’t crowd the streets and villages of its cities. Instead, they can explore the island at their own pace. Take a dolphin or whale watching tour, hike the many varieties of hiking trails, or go scuba diving!

I recently had the chance to spend a week visiting Antigua, a beautiful Caribbean island, and my oh my, was it a good time! On the flight over Sam and I were trying to figure out when exactly we’d last been on a Caribbean island and realized it was 4 years ago for our honeymoon! That’s way too long, especially considering how much I love the beach.

This was our first time visiting Antigua and while we were both looking forward to relaxing and alternating between the beach and the pool, we were also pretty excited to explore the island and see what it has to offer. I think we managed to strike the perfect balance!...

Now let’s rewind and take a look back at our week visiting Antigua:

Hear about a 10-day itinerary for travel to Nepal as the Amateur Traveler talks to Sean Hira about this beautiful country.

Why should someone go to Nepal?

Sean says, “Nepal’s a little bit of an underrated destination. It’s a landlocked country in the Himalayas sandwiched between two powerhouses, China. In India. My favorite part about Nepal is really the harmony between Hinduism and Buddhism and seeing those cultures coexist so peacefully from a tourist perspective.

A lot of people go there for the trekking and the intense base camp trekking and the first thing that probably comes to your mind is Mount Everest, but there is so much more to Nepal than Mount Everest or Annapurna.

The Himalayas are ingrained in the culture there, but you can see so much more than just trekking in Everest.”

When I first visited the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana in 2013, I wrote this about the city:
“Ljubljana is still relatively undiscovered as a major tourist destination. I doubt it will remain that way for long, though, so go to this place, and go now.”

Ljubljana is a fantastic city; one of my favorite capital cities in all of Europe, in fact (and yes, I’ve visited a lot of them!). I assumed that social media and a growing number of global tourists would undoubtedly transform Ljubljana into a cringey, crowded hotspot before long...
