You have the dream trip planned for a week in Ireland finally coming up, and now all you have to do is figure out where to go. Your first thought might be, “I have to see Dublin! It’s the capital and the heart of the country!”

You’re right, it is the capital, but it is definitely not the beating heart of Ireland. For that, you have to get away from Dublin. Go out into Ireland’s beautiful and sometimes mysterious countryside to experience its everything it has to offer. It’s here where you’ll get up close with wild coastlines, mystical ruins, green landscapes, world-famous trad music, cozy towns and, of course, all the Guinness-soaked pubs you can handle.

But where exactly should you go with your week in Ireland, then? You can’t cover a ton of space in only one week. Don’t worry, I have you covered. In this guide, I’ll take you to my three favorite stops in Ireland. By the time you’re done, they’re likely to become your favorites, too!

Today’s epic post is a one week Ireland itinerary and it’s by Sian from Ireland Before you Die. Ireland is such an amazing place for a road trip so I’m really excited to share this action packed itinerary! I actually did a similar solo road trip a couple of years ago so I’ve left some links below if you’d like to read more!

From enjoying a pint of Guinness in Dublin to taking in the sights of the Wild Atlantic Way, you can see a lot with just seven days in Ireland. Here is our one week Ireland itinerary.

At only 32,599 square miles (for reference, the state of Indiana is 35,910 square miles), Ireland’s compact size makes it entirely possible to explore the highlights of the Emerald Isle in just one week, as long as you are up for a jam-packed week of activities and a lot of driving.

While extending your stay will allow you to explore at a much slower pace and afford you the opportunity to explore Ireland’s hidden gems, there is still plenty you can do if you’re restricted to just seven days.

So, if you’re wondering how to make the most of your seven days in Ireland, here is our suggestion for a one week Ireland itinerary.

The Emerald Isle is a paradise of idyllic rolling farmland, rugged coastlines, manicured homesteads, historic castles, and an unassuming and friendly population. This 10 day Ireland itinerary will help you navigate the small but vibrant island and see all of the highlights in a short amount of time.

Once upon a time, Ireland was a country that everyone wanted to leave – it had no wealth, no political freedom, no prospects. But times have certainly changed, for the Ireland of today is Europe’s wealthiest and fastest growing nation. Free from its economic and political woes of the past, Ireland’s natural charms are able to shine through. Its pristine emerald countryside, rugged and wild coastlines, irresistible foot-tapping music, and a rich spiritual history, from the Druids at Newgrange to the monks at Glendalough – the Ireland of today is a magical island that enchants everyone who visits.

As an Irish dancer and with a last name like “McKneely,” Ireland was the first country I ever wanted to visit. I never would have guessed that I’d travel to far flung places like Egypt before setting foot on Ireland’s green shore, but no matter – I finally made it happen! After 10 days roadtripping around this small but spectacular island, I can affirm that it lives up to the hype. To help you plan your own adventure, here’s a perfect 10 day Ireland itinerary to help you make the most of your time there.

Ireland was always one of those European vacations that I thought “I’ll get to it eventually.” It didn’t feel like a big priority, because it is a destination that is easily accessible and navigable at any age or lifestyle. But when the opportunity to visit Ireland presented itself in 2022, I jumped on it! And wow am I happy I did, because Ireland turned out to be one of those rare places that truly surprised me. I really loved my 7 day trip in Ireland!

Since my first visit to Ireland in 2022, I have returned 5 more times as a trip leader and tour guide. I am here to share all my insider tips with you in this 7 day itinerary for Ireland.

There is so much to love about the Emerald Isle! In the Irish language, there is a common greeting which says Cead Mile Failte. It translates as ‘a hundred thousand welcomes,’ which I find to be a rather fitting phrase for Ireland.

You will feel welcome and invited from the second you arrive because Irish people are incredibly friendly and hospitable! Rolling green hills, lively young cities, a loveable pub culture, and jaw-dropping scenery are just a few of things you’ll love about Ireland. Ireland is really a place that has a hundred thousand reasons to visit.

I’ve never met anyone who’s done a road trip in Ireland and not loved it. After spending 2 weeks in Ireland, I am now one of those people.

My 2 week road trip in Ireland had it all: postcard-worthy landscapes, fascinating ancient sites, evocative ruins, gratifying outdoor adventures, colourful small towns, delicious food, lively music, fun legends and welcoming, friendly locals.

There was only one thing missing- good weather.

No, you definitely don’t go to Ireland for the weather. In late September/early October I experienced a lot of rain, strong winds, even some hail.

But with all that rain came some of the prettiest rainbows, arching over a patchwork of green fields and rugged coastlines. I couldn’t help but smile because that is exactly what I was hoping Ireland would look like!

The itinerary I put together for my solo road trip around Ireland had a specific theme- beautiful landscapes, outdoor activities and archaeological sites.

If you’re interested in Ireland’s historic sites and diverse landscapes, then this itinerary should be a good source of inspiration. I hope it helps you plan your own 2 week road trip in Ireland!

Are you itching to visit the Emerald Isle but only have a week to explore? It’s a relatively small country, so it’s doable. This Ireland itinerary for 7 days will show you how to enjoy the natural beauty of the countryside and lively Irish culture in a one-week Ireland road trip.

For most travelers, starting and ending your Irish road trip at Dublin Airport makes logical (and financial) sense. But for those who can start their trip in Dublin and end it at Shannon Airport, there are other destinations in this beautiful country you can squeeze into your 7-day Ireland itinerary.

My detailed guide below suggests two different routes for both options. Either way, you’ll have an epic and memorable time in Ireland! It’s one of my favorite countries! Keep in mind, this itinerary does not take into account travel time, most flights from the US will depart in the evening and arrive the next morning.

As part of our annual, what’s a place that is cheap to fly to from the US and easy to do within 4 days trip, we stumbled across Ireland. People always rave about Ireland’s raw beauty, but pictures didn’t necessarily sway me. It was always grey and a lot of wet, dark hills and fields. What is this “raw beauty” people keep referring to that makes it one of the most beautiful places in the world? It’s hard to describe. Once there, you realize what everyone means. It’s not something that can be put into words, it’s something that you need to see for yourself to understand. If you’re not convinced, like I wasn’t, all it takes is a quick 4 days in Ireland to get a taste of this island (and yes – Ireland is an island!). It’s non-committal, it’s easy, and it’ll have you swayed to visit again.

The below is an example of an iconic, standard, first-timers 4 days in Ireland. It’s a travel itinerary that gives you a taste of city, coast and countryside manors filled with castles and mountains. It gives you a taste of everything in Ireland, which is why I like this itinerary so much.

We were fortunate enough to spend 16 days travelling around all of Ireland in June and July 2019.

We designed a route, rented a campervan and set off on what proved to be a pretty epic journey!

Our route took us around the entire country, starting and ending just outside Dublin.

As Cazzy is from Ireland herself, we have already visited a number of Northern Ireland’s best sites over the years.

However, neither of us were prepared for just how breathtakingly beautiful the rest of Ireland is; and it’s safe to say that our Ireland vacation is one of the best adventures we have been on to date.

If you’re planning a trip to Ireland this year (which you 100% should be) then hopefully this full-on Ireland travel guide will help you with everything you need to know.

Including the best places to visit right through to some of our favourite Ireland travel tips.

Whether you are travelling to Ireland alone, or backpacking with a group of friends, this should be a one stop Ireland guide to help you on your way.

Planning a trip to Ireland can be a lengthy task. One that leaves many scratching their head or pulling their hair out. But, lucky for you, I’ve come to your rescue. Hi, I’m Laura, your local guide. It’s my goal to make your trip to Ireland as carefree as possible. I love seeing visitors fall in love with my home country. Ireland is a magical place, and I understand just how much the trip means to you. It’s a once in a lifetime experience and I can’t wait to help you plan it. Now, let’s go on a road trip, an Ireland 7 day itinerary exploring the countries most iconic cliffs, beautiful national parks and we will even take a journey out to one of Ireland’s most scenic islands.

But first, we need to address the big question.

IS 7 DAYS IN IRELAND ENOUGH TIME?

To put it simply, no. 7 days is not nearly enough to see all there is to do in Ireland. In fact, a whole month would only allow you to scratch the service of what the country has to offer. However, with that being said, oftentimes one week in Ireland is all most tourists have. And, while it’s not a huge amount of time, it is enough to see some of the countries major highlights.

Every time someone asks me what my favorite country is, Ireland is always at the top of the list. It’s such a magical, special place. There’s a feeling of acceptance and simplicity combined with excitement and jovial cheer. I love love love Dublin, and I could totally see myself living there. But I also love the quiet countryside. Roadtripping through Ireland is absolutely essential to truly grasp the spirit of the country. The first time I drove through the country, I only had a week and it definitely wasn’t enough. So this time, I made sure I added a few days and zeroed in on the most important things I wanted to do for our 10 day Ireland itinerary. Although this was my third visit, it was Ryan’s first, so I put together an itinerary that showcases all the musts, but also a few things we discovered along the way.

Even though the island of Aruba is pretty small and flat, there are still lots of nice Aruba beaches to enjoy, including some beautiful ones in the Arikok National Park...

In general, Aruba beaches have exceptionally clear blue water and soft white sand, and they’re great for swimming and relaxing under a palapa (thatched umbrella) with some drinks. It’s definitely one of the best things to do in Aruba.

We spent a couple weeks trying to see every beach on the island, and we got pretty close, so here’s our complete list of the best beaches in Aruba!

Many years ago, I was having a lunch meeting with a Frenchman who had been living in Shanghai for over two decades. We were talking about travel and he told me that the most incredible sight he had ever seen were the temples in Bagan. He had gone up in a hot air balloon and was awestruck by the landscape of Buddhist temples as far as the eye could see.

That conversation from over a decade ago seared a mental image in my brain. I needed to see this ocean of temples for myself so when I was sent to Yangon on a project, I made sure to spend a few days in Bagan.

As I had hoped, the Frenchman wasn’t exaggerating nor was he speaking in metaphors. Bagan had thousands of ancient temples spread out over a vast plain, literally as far as the eye could see. It was spectacular.

Glacier hiking offers a more adventurous spin on traditional hiking and can be done on every continent except for Australia. Whether you love nature, a physical challenge, or simply being outdoors, glacier hiking is a great way to feed your sense of adventure.

The sheer scale, beauty, and uniqueness of glaciers make the experience of hiking on them unforgettable. It’s an activity that often takes you out of your comfort zone and can provide a sense of accomplishment. Glacier hiking usually involves using specialised equipment and often requires exhilarating transport to reach them such scenic helicopter rides.

So now that I’ve piqued your interest, you may be asking where to start searching for glacier hiking experiences. My answer would be to start in New Zealand. While Australia may not have any glaciers, its neighbour has numerous that are “Sweet as, bru!”

South Africa sits high on the bucket list of most adventurous travelers.
It’s a wonderful country; one that that everyone should aim experience at least once in their lives (although most, like me, end up coming back for more).

Located at the southern tip of Africa (the clue’s in the name!), South Africa offers up a fascinating blend of culture and history, wild animals and exquisite landscapes, friendly people and delicious food, creating what Nelson Mandela called a Rainbow Nation.

Most tourists head straight to Cape Town, chasing the city’s vibrant sunsets, bright-white beaches, world-class food scene, and begging-to-be-hiked mountains. While I’m arguably Cape Town’s biggest fan, there’s so many other places worth exploring in South Africa.

I’ve managed to travel to all 7 continents now, and from all of my adventures, one of the countries that I will never get tired of revisiting multiple times would be Japan! (Japan Itinerary)

As a timeless destination, I am forever enamored by Japan’s ancient traditions that are perfectly fused with its vibrant modernity. Not to mention the lush nature and exquisite cuisine that it has and I’m sure that I’ll still barely ‘scratch the surface‘ even if I spend my life exploring it in its entirety.

With that said, it does seem daunting to whip up a Japan itinerary — but then again, not really! The country may be vast but it’s totally possible to make the most of it with whatever time you have.

After our seven-month stay, New Zealand captured our hearts. We talk about it often and fondly. However, when considering a trip to New Zealand, it’s difficult not to become overwhelmed!

New Zealand is made up of two large islands, the North and the South, and there are plenty of places to choose from. Chances are high that you’ll only have enough time to visit one island or at least spend most of your time on one island...

Oslo may be famous for being one of the most expensive cities in the world to live, but for travelers, Oslo stands as a testament to nature’s unparalleled beauty somehow  seamlessly blended with urban sophistication.

Oslo is the capital and largest city of Norway situated on the country’s southern coast at the northern end of the Oslofjord, Oslo has a rich history dating back to the Viking Age and is known for hosting the annual Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

While many people visit Oslo to dine on incredible seafood, visit the city’s numerous museums that include the Munch Museum which displays the works of Edvard Munch, and possibly to see its architecture like the Oslo Opera House, there’s no denying that Oslo’s nature reigns supreme and is the biggest drawcard that entices people to come.

Hear about a 10-day itinerary for travel to Nepal as the Amateur Traveler talks to Sean Hira about this beautiful country.

Why should someone go to Nepal?

Sean says, “Nepal’s a little bit of an underrated destination. It’s a landlocked country in the Himalayas sandwiched between two powerhouses, China. In India. My favorite part about Nepal is really the harmony between Hinduism and Buddhism and seeing those cultures coexist so peacefully from a tourist perspective.

A lot of people go there for the trekking and the intense base camp trekking and the first thing that probably comes to your mind is Mount Everest, but there is so much more to Nepal than Mount Everest or Annapurna.

The Himalayas are ingrained in the culture there, but you can see so much more than just trekking in Everest.”

When I first visited the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana in 2013, I wrote this about the city:
“Ljubljana is still relatively undiscovered as a major tourist destination. I doubt it will remain that way for long, though, so go to this place, and go now.”

Ljubljana is a fantastic city; one of my favorite capital cities in all of Europe, in fact (and yes, I’ve visited a lot of them!). I assumed that social media and a growing number of global tourists would undoubtedly transform Ljubljana into a cringey, crowded hotspot before long...

Iceland is a magical place. It’s the land of sheep, northern lights, volcanoes with unpronounceable names (try saying “Eyjafjallajökull”), rugged landscapes, waterfalls, mountains, and natural hot springs. Its stunning, scenic landscape feels out of this world.

Iceland quickly became one of my favorite countries after my first visit. It’s such a beautiful island filled with warm, welcoming people and sweeping vistas you won’t find anywhere else in the world. I have relished every subsequent visit to the country.

However, Iceland is expensive.

Traveling here on a budget is difficult as Iceland is definitely not a cheap country (and the growing influx of tourists is only increasing prices further).

Fortunately, it is possible to see a lot without going broke if you plan ahead. You won’t be living large if you’re here to backpack, but Iceland is worth the expense.

This travel guide to Iceland can help you plan your trip and see the sights without breaking the bank!

The mere mention of Guatemala is enough to get many a traveller’s imaginations in full flight, and rightly so too.

On the one hand, it’s home to a beguiling ancient culture – Guatemala has still managed to retain a strong Mayan identity despite colonization by the Spaniards in 1524, however on the other hand, you’ve got some of the most active volcanos in the world (and a relatively high crime rate) which would concern even the most intrepid of travellers.

This being said, as long as enough precaution is taken and adequate planning is done in advance, Guatemala’s alluring and intriguing ancient culture far outweighs those downsides, making it one of the most amazing countries to visit in Latin America.

To be honest, Gdansk wasn’t firmly on my idea of places to visit in Poland. In truth, I’d probably overlooked it in lieu of the other beautiful places in Poland or even the stunning castles, too. Though I’m so happy I remedied this with a spontaneous trip to the city. Honestly, it’s gorgeous and there are so many of the best things to do in Gdansk dotted all across the city.

Perched on the northern coast of Poland, it’s a pretty historic city that’s filled with cobbled streets, historic buildings and plenty of yummy places to eat. Better still, it’s the kind of city that’s great to visit at any time of the year.

You see, in the winter months, it’s filled with cosy European Christmas markets; whilst in the summer, it’s a great place to chill after a sunny afternoon in Sopot.

Whether you’re heading to the city for a long weekend or even part of a bigger trip around Poland, I wanted to pop over a few of my favourite suggestions on the best things to do in Gdansk during your visit.

There are so many incredible and a hoard of the best things to do in Honduras when you visit. Now. Honduras itself is an intriguing Central American country that’s is pretty off the radar of most travellers.

Yes, it’s home to some of the most amazing Mayan ruins, beautiful beaches and absolutely fascinating wildlife yet it’s one of the lesser-visited countries in Central America. This isn’t without reason, Honduras has had (and till date, in certain spots, still has) a violent reputation.

Truthfully, it’s a country that none but the most intrepid of traveller would typically have considered visiting in the past. That being said, with beautiful hotspots like The Bay Islands and the introduction of tourism police, is slowly becoming slightly easier to visit.

It’s a city that has something for everyone.

Rio is famed for its beautiful beaches, annual carnival and stunning natural vistas which intertwine with the city. This all means that there’s more than enough reason to find yourself wanting to visit.

This is why I wanted to share some of the best things to do in Rio de Janeiro when you visit next. Though, as with all destinations, always listen to local advice on safety and don’t wear anything too overt or mountains of bling.

Leaving Burg Eltz, our final stop on this road trip before heading back to London was Aachen – a city near the border of the Netherlands and Belgium, making for the perfect stop before hopping aboard our DFDS ferry back to London (well actually, to Dover and then driving to London).

We checked into the Innside in Aachen as soon as we got there and it was probably at that point I realised we’d been on the road for about 14 hours that day!

Given our limited time, there were two main places I knew I had to visit – everything else would be a bonus – and those places were the Rathaus (the town hall) and the cathedral.

Honestly, I’d never been more grateful to have the heated seats in our rental car, especially as it was an early morning start to visit Crathes Castle in Scotland.

The temperatures had plummeted overnight and, hopping back into the car, I can’t tell you how nice it was to not be sitting in freezing leather seats as we made our way up towards Aberdeen.

We had really only one stop on the way and that was in Crathes castle in Scotland on the west coast.

Having an Avis car meant having flexibility to stop whenever we wanted! So, we made a quick pitstop (it was on the way, to be fair), at Fettercairn (which is a small village we were introduced to the night before at the hotel).

Grand Teton National Park is a place I find so incredible in Wyoming! With towering mountains, pristine lakes and a heap of incredible trails, there’s a load of the best things to do in Grand Teton National Park dotted all across the region.

After spending a heap of time in the park (during my road trip from New York City to Los Angeles), I quickly realised how special this place is. Truth be told, I kinda saw it as a stopping point before arriving at Yellowstone and hadn’t really thought of it as a park to visit in its own right. How wrong I was, Grand Teton National Park is everything!

Thankfully, I remedied this very quickly and explored as much of the park as possible during my visit across Wyoming. I still have the best memories of being here and I genuinely think it’s one of my favourite national parks in the US.

On our very first visit to Nimes, there was one place I’d really wanted to see but considering how you’d need to have a car (or go on a bus journey which was rumoured to be over 1 hour long) and we’d showed up with no plans on getting a car, I’d just decided that this was one sight we would have to skip.

To be fair, there’s a lot to keep you occupied in Nimes anyway, so this sight was ‘surplus to requirements so to speak.

The sight in question was the Pont du Gard – an ancient Roman viaduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, according to Wikipedia, the highest elevated Roman Aqueduct in the world.
