When you think of important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia, one place immediately comes to mind – Angkor Wat. It’s part of a temple complex that attracts over 2 million tourists to Siem Reap every year.

Like everyone else, we were drawn to Siem Reap by Angkor Wat. At the time, we didn’t know anything else about Siem Reap so it was basically the only reason we were there.
But after spending a few days in the city, we realized that the Angkor temples aren’t its only draw. It’s home to interesting architecture, a thriving food scene, and a surprising nightlife that make it a favorite destination for both backpackers and expats. We were intrigued.

Angkor Wat may be its main draw but there’s enough to see and do in Siem Reap to keep you busy between temple visits.

Apart from its grand temples (including the famous Angkor Wat that is pictured on Cambodia’s flag), there is much to do in and around the city. For instance, as the seat of the Khmer kingdom back in the 9th century, you can bask in its glorious history, its vibrant range of cuisine options, as well as its many other affordable activities and attractions.

Melbourne – a hip, trendy, and vibrant Australian city brimming with culture. Its neighbourhoods have personalities of their own, ranging from bohemian quarters with amazing restaurants and fashion boutiques, to edgy, artsy areas that are home to more tattoo shops than a city could possibly need. It’s impossible to truly understand the cultural centre that is Melbourne without actually living there. And it’s equally as difficult to explore it as a visitor.

I’ve been to Melbourne 4 times. Each time, discover a whole new side of the incredibly complicated and fascinating city that has topped the charts of the World’s Most Liveable Cities. But despite my frequent visits, I couldn’t possibly try to share the best that this city has to offer without some local help. Luckily, a few of my friends and locals were eager to share their tips and recommendations for things to do in Melbourne.
