As the world continues to grow in demand for tourism, there has never been a better time to visit Japan. The country well known for strict entry requirements is now easing into a tourist-friendly approach, and it only looks to improve over time.

My family recently took advantage of this and visited a couple of months ago back in May. Being an anime enthusiast myself, I made our itinerary to not only include the usual Tokyo hot spots, but also scenic landmarks featured in famous anime like “Slam Dunk”, and “Your Name”.

Here are 7 destinations from our trip that you can add to your own Japan excursion.

I’ve managed to travel to all 7 continents now, and from all of my adventures, one of the countries that I will never get tired of revisiting multiple times would be Japan! (Japan Itinerary)

As a timeless destination, I am forever enamored by Japan’s ancient traditions that are perfectly fused with its vibrant modernity. Not to mention the lush nature and exquisite cuisine that it has and I’m sure that I’ll still barely ‘scratch the surface‘ even if I spend my life exploring it in its entirety.

With that said, it does seem daunting to whip up a Japan itinerary — but then again, not really! The country may be vast but it’s totally possible to make the most of it with whatever time you have.

Japan is one of the best countries for food, not just in Asia, but in the world. The fact that Japan trails only France in number of Michelin stars speaks for itself.

Unlike many travel bloggers, we don’t have a desire to visit every country in the world but we do intend to visit every prefecture in Japan, and a lot of that has to do with our love for traditional Japanese food culture. If the cost of living weren’t so high, we’d actually love to live in Japan. That would be a dream!

Many travelers typically pick Tokyo as a ‘base camp’ for their first trip to Japan, and it’s no surprise why.

The capital of Japan is a vibrant hub of things to do, from walking across the bustling Shibuya Crossing to visiting Tokyo Skytree, getting lost in the lights of Akihabara, or seeing ancient traditions come to life at one of the many shrines around the city.

While you could spend years exploring Tokyo, there’s an even bigger world waiting for you outside of the capital.

Tokyo | stay in a ryokan | Onsens -therapeutic baths | Osaka | Universal Studios | Nara temple | many deer
After leaving Tokyo, the remainder of our time in Japan would be spent heading to an onsen town, riding rollercoasters at Universal Studios and hand feeding adorable deer in Nara.

We also spent some time heading to see the famous snow monkeys – but that was so disappointing I don’t even want to waste time writing about it!

Our first stop after Tokyo was to a small town in Nagano prefecture. Why visit this little town?

To stay in a ryokan!

Melbourne – a hip, trendy, and vibrant Australian city brimming with culture. Its neighbourhoods have personalities of their own, ranging from bohemian quarters with amazing restaurants and fashion boutiques, to edgy, artsy areas that are home to more tattoo shops than a city could possibly need. It’s impossible to truly understand the cultural centre that is Melbourne without actually living there. And it’s equally as difficult to explore it as a visitor.

I’ve been to Melbourne 4 times. Each time, discover a whole new side of the incredibly complicated and fascinating city that has topped the charts of the World’s Most Liveable Cities. But despite my frequent visits, I couldn’t possibly try to share the best that this city has to offer without some local help. Luckily, a few of my friends and locals were eager to share their tips and recommendations for things to do in Melbourne.
